Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has submitted an operating plan targeting a 24 December 2026 opening for Long Thanh Airport, Inside Vina reported on 6 November. The opening push still depends on supporting facilities: CafeF reported the same day that six priority projects must finish before 24 December to support coordinated operation.
Key takeaways
- ACV’s opening target is 24 December 2026, not a confirmed launch.
- Six supporting projects face a pre-24 December completion requirement.
- Component Project 3 reached 85.55% of contract value by 21 October.
- Phase-one design capacity is 25 million passengers annually.

The latest deadline follows substantial construction progress, but completed work isn't the same as operational readiness. Dong Nai’s Department of Industry and Trade reported on 21 October that four of the 16 main construction packages in Component Project 3 had completed all work.
Construction has advanced, but work remains
The rush to open Long Thanh Airport phase one by year-end 2026 concerns a project already under construction, not a new airport approval. The dated progress reports below show how far its main construction component had advanced; they don't establish that the entire airport was ready to receive commercial passengers.
| Reporting date and source | Component Project 3 completed work value | Share of contract value |
|---|---|---|
| 30 March 2026 — Government News | Around VND64.1 trillion | 74% |
| 21 October 2026 — Dong Nai Department of Industry and Trade | More than VND73.869 trillion | 85.55% |
The terminal itself has about 376,000 square metres of floor area, according to the department’s 21 October report. Its scale helps explain why photographs of a largely finished building aren't enough to judge readiness: construction completion and an operating airport are different milestones.
Supporting facilities remain part of the opening test
Two of the six priority projects had completed basic construction and were installing equipment, CafeF reported on 6 November. That is progress, but not a statement that those facilities were fully ready for operation. The latest reports describe a deadline and an operating target, rather than an announcement that commercial service has begun.
Scope matters too. Inside Vina’s 6 November report gives phase one a design capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually. Those are capacity figures, not recorded passenger demand or evidence of rental demand around the airport.
What it means for foreign buyers
For Korean, Taiwanese and Chinese residents considering a home near Long Thanh, the opening target doesn't establish a school-run time or a reliable commute to work in Ho Chi Minh City. Assess the home against routes you can use today. Airport access shouldn't substitute for checking schools, everyday services and the journey your family will actually make.
The reports provide no property transaction prices, exchange rates or financing terms. If you hold won, NT dollars, yuan or US dollars, don't recalculate a purchase budget from airport headlines. Match your developer instalments to the signed payment schedule and obtain a current bank conversion quote before transferring funds. If you earn in VND, keep the same discipline around payment dates.
Before paying a deposit, use the Pink Book and pre-deposit checklist to separate property eligibility from the airport story. The English desk can help you review a nearby project’s developer payment schedule over Zalo or WhatsApp.
